Rob joined Southwest Generation as General Counsel in 2010, and is responsible for all legal, regulatory, and government affairs for the company. He also oversees human resources, safety, compliance, and aspects of asset management. Prior to Southwest Generation, Rob worked as an associate in the Denver office of a Washington D.C.-based law firm, a partner in a Denver-based law firm, and Assistant General Counsel and Deputy Chief Compliance Officer for Molson Coors Brewing Company. His legal background includes corporate and transactional matters, mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, finance, executive compensation and ERISA, securities, strategic planning, and compliance.
From June 2005 to January 2009, Rob served in the Colorado House of Representatives, where he was on the Judiciary, Education, Capital Development, Legal Services, Local Government, and Ethics committees. In 2006, he was a House sponsor of a bipartisan bill that increased Colorado's renewable portfolio standards to 20% by 2020. In addition to his legislative experience, Mr. Witwer served as Assistant Director of the Colorado Department of Natural Resources, where he worked on public lands and energy policy for the State of Colorado.
Rob has a law degree from the University of Chicago Law School and a bachelor's degree from Amherst College. He, his wife and 4 boys live in Golden, Colorado.
