OSHA Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP)
The VPP is an OSHA recognition program that recognizes companies with exemplary health and safety management systems that go above and beyond OSHA standards. Their illness and injury rates are, on average, 54% lower than their BLS (Bureau of Labor) counterparts. Sites that choose to participate must submit an application that details how they meet the requirements of the VPP and then are subjected to a several day on-site audit. Sites are recommended for either Star (meet all the requirements) or Merit (meet most of the requirements) status. There are approximately 8.1 million workplaces in the US and only about 2000 sites participate in this stringent program.
